ow did u install mysql? , firtst chek if it's installed by default (not  happens in the stock redhat 7.1 install, you must explicit select the packages, altough they provided them.)
in RH 7.1   type the following as root:

cd /etc/rc.d/init.d
./mysql restart
It's running?

Subject: mysql.sock

I can't get this thing to create.

I'm using RH 7.1 and no matter how I load it the msql.sock does not get created anywhere on the harddrive.

/var/lib/mysql is owned by mysql/mysql

I have dos setup on the first 60% of disk with linux on remaining 30%. Disk size is 20 GB.

Erth0 shows as active to 127.0.0.1 localhost
Modem does not work in linux, as it is a software programed dos modem.

I know many have run into this before, but I have not found any answers as to how to address it and make it work. I want MySQL to work on linux RH 7.1 for testing purposes on a single computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bill
