Well, first, be careful setting up an FTP server, as it is very easy to
sniff the password when someone logs in.  If you are worried about such
things, look into OpenSSH and its SFTP service.  (or is it OpenSSL??  I
can never remember which is which *grins*).

Next, are you trying to log in as root?  If so, check your WU-FTP
configuration to see if root logins are disabled.  I know OpenSSH (L?)
allows the option to prevent root logins, perhaps WU does too.

Finally, make sure that the username and password you are using are
valid on the machine you are trying to log into.  Does it work locally?
(try "su -l username" to test).

All that said, I am NOT an expert in WU-FTP.
