for some reason lilo doesn't like hard drive that are larger than 8 gigs.... 
and because of that linux must be installed on the first 8 gigs of your hard 
disk. i had the same problem when i installed red hat on my laptop. i had to 
install winXP on the first 3 gigs, then linux comes on a 7 gig pertition after 
that, then i have a 10 gigs that was formated with NTFS format to be used with 
XP. this way your can make sure that you boot loader 'lilo' will find linux.
