I have seen similar errors if the system date/clock is too far out of range.
I had a bad system battery on my test server and did not notice it right
away. When I manually set the server time I was able to register the server
OK.

There's nothing you can do to stop it save for examining the headers and
reporting the person to his/her isp. The trouble is that they've more than
likely spoofed that information also and/or are relaying through a
third-party.

You need to create an acl (access control list) for your local network.

So, for example, in your acl list, create a rule such as:

acl my_users src 192.168.5.1/255

and then in the rules for the acl add:

http_access allow my_users

Hi

Issue the command rhn_register then issue the command up2date.
Sometimes when there is a lot of traffic you will not be allowed to use
up2date as RedHat sells what they call entitlements for $60.00 per
system. I personally think up2date is great!

Thanks

Hi , thanks for the answer.
When I tried to run rhn_register, I received a "No route to host" message.
My server can not reach the internet.
Isnīt there a command that can be executed locally to see my patches applied
and then download a new one if I need ?
Thanks again

Hi

You can always do a rpm -q package-name. Obviously uname -a will
show the kernel rev. I had a 7.1 Lunux box in production and had
problems until I updated the kernel via up2date. If you are on a network
take a look at resolv.conf it should look like

Search domain name e.g search ban.com
Dns primary ip address 198.16.4.2
Dns secondary 198.33.9.4

You can also issue the command netconfig and reset your network info,
ip address default gateway.

Thanks
John Markunas

Yes

But it is a pain! See if you can get the firewall re-configured
to allow use of up2date it is good. I also use it when I want to install
a new package I just say up2date package-name. I used to go to the
RedHat site and then find the RPM's I needed down loaded them and then
did a rpm -ivh package.rpm. It was time consuming especially when there
was a dependency problem.

Thanks

But it is a pain! See if you can get the firewall re-configured
to allow use of up2date it is good. I also use it when I want to install
a new package I just say up2date package-name. I used to go to the
RedHat site and then find the RPM's I needed down loaded them and then
did a rpm -ivh package.rpm. It was time consuming especially when there
was a dependency problem.

Thanks

Subject: RES: Patches on Redhat 7.1

Hi,
my server is in a Local Network protected by a Firewall.
My resolv.conf points to my Local DNS servers, just to my Local network.
Can I download the necessary patches from a site and then apply the
patches
on my machine ?
Thanks again

Hi

You can always do a rpm -q package-name. Obviously uname -a will
show the kernel rev. I had a 7.1 Lunux box in production and had
problems until I updated the kernel via up2date. If you are on a network
take a look at resolv.conf it should look like

Search domain name e.g search ban.com
Dns primary ip address 198.16.4.2
Dns secondary 198.33.9.4

You can also issue the command netconfig and reset your network info,
ip address default gateway.

Thanks

Hi , thanks for the answer.
When I tried to run rhn_register, I received a "No route to host"
message.
My server can not reach the internet.
Isnīt there a command that can be executed locally to see my patches
applied
and then download a new one if I need ?
Thanks again

Hi

Issue the command rhn_register then issue the command up2date.
Sometimes when there is a lot of traffic you will not be allowed to use
up2date as RedHat sells what they call entitlements for $60.00 per
system. I personally think up2date is great!
