I got it to work. Once I had smbfs compiled into the kernel, and I ironed out my network issues (bad IP and network was down) it worked seamlessly and I was able to attach and move the files I wanted.

What OS/version? Ian Firla wrote:I use:
smbclient //servername/share $password -U $username -c 'cd dir1/dir2/dir3;
put '$filename''

Thanks. I can now attach to the 2k box, but when I try to use 'put' to transfer a file, it tells me the file does not exist. I double checked to make sure I have the file name right, and I do. I noticed that typing ? will show a list of commands, but I can't tell if I am using them correctly. Ian Firla wrote:Try smbclient

I am trying to use smbmount to attach to my win 2k server from my linux
workstation. I type smbmount //servername/share /2kmount U username I
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and hit return. I get the following error:
smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct user mounts (500,500)
If I try the same command as root, I get this error:
session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied)
SMB connection failed.
What do I need to changed to access the shares on the 2k box?
