First, I assume you are using the right username/password (no offense
intended on your abilities).

Did you move the sshd.pam file from the source or do you see an sshd
file in your /etc/pam.d folder? If not, you need to get one. I would
untar the source and copy it out of there.

One warning: I use Redhat 6.2, so I am not sure of any open 7.1
problems.
