Steph, It all seems to have worked! Yes, I set VerboseMode to "no" (without quotes). Also, I removed the OpenSSH version K15sshd and S08sshd from /etc/init.d/rc3.d and from /etc/init.d/rc5.d and replaced them with the script in /startup/linux/redhat (renamed to the above). I likewise replaced /usr/sbin/rcsshd with that script. The system starts sshd2 on reboot and it stays resident after use.
