When opening a File Transfer Window over fast academic network (university to university) links I
experience no performance problems. However, when working from home, where I access through
a free local ISP, there is a significant delay (1 minute or more) in opening the FTW. My remote
top directory, on a solaris system,  has approx. 70 subdirectories and 250 files. There are some
30,000 files altogether in my directory tree. The delay appears to be in listing the 70 subdirectories in
the main directory. This delay is new since I started using ssh. It was not present with old FTP. My
query is: Can I jump straight to the subdirectory from which I wish to download files without having to
drum my fingers while waiting for ssh to slowly go down through each directory level?
