Hi!
Even if it is legal, doing so is NOT recommended. And there are several 
reasons... 
- Misdirected attacks: The apperent source of the attacks may not be 
the real host from which the attack is orginating. The hacker could 
spoof his adress or scan you from an earlier compromised machine.
- Attacking someone who has shown that he has (at least some) skills is 
not a good idéa. He could take it personally, and whereas before, your 
machine was just another box, now you are a direct target.
- Why should you scan them? If you arn't gonna do anything? Use it as a 
threat?
