you can try the popd that comes with qmail. But I am not sure if it can
work at all without qmail. Otherwise, I don't think qpopper by itself is
all that bad. The main issue with pop is that the protocol overall does
not consider security (e.g. sending passwords in the clear unless you go
through a lot of hoops)
I usually prefer to just tunnel pop over ssh. But this is even harder to
implement if you have a somewhat diverse userbase.
