Great!!! *BSD's are cool too, and since you have experience with security I
would have to suggest installing OpenBSD (OBSD), it doesn't require that
much HDD space either.

Keep the man pages near you (from the CD's or the net). The HDD partition
utility is different from the LNX installation. If you like a neat
X-windows you will have to port it from KDE project, the one in OBSD is
extremelly plain (which makes you rely on the console).

I personally prefer OpenBSD, it is very stable, it has a secure by default
installation (less tweaking later on), the man pages are excellent. Cons:
some badly written code will not compile or run properly. Then again, why
do you want bad code? The OBSD project has lots of revisited software.
Check their site or get a CD, if you install from a CD, then use the CVS to
update your ports.
