With a decent antenna, you can sniff a wireless network from much farther
away than 100 yards, the distance limit in your laptop is primarily limited
by the amount of energy the laptop can supply for transmitting, sniffing
a wireless network from a mile (or even several miles) away is not overly
difficult.
