Which OS ? If you run a Unix flavour, you just have to check your logs
;-) I heard some so-called OSes dont log by default and take a lot of
resources to log.
If you want to see the traffic on an external Unix box, you can use
Sniffit :
DESCRIPTION
sniffit is a packet sniffer for TCP/UDP/ICMP packets.
sniffit is able to give you very detailed technical info
on these packets (SEQ, ACK, TTL, Window, ...) but also
packet contents in different formats (hex or plain text,
...).
If you are on a hub, you can sniff transparently.
If you want to sniff over a switched network, you have to activate the
packet forwarding on the sniffer and fake the mac adress of the box you
want to listen to. You have to send an arp request to the switch saying
that you have the determined mac adress - so the switch will send you
the packets whose destination is the box you are sniffing and the packet
forwarding will allow your box to send the packets to the sniffed box.
