Expect it to happen. I run port scans not only against the students, but
against faculty and staff as well. Part of my job is to examine the
network for potential vulnerabilities. Since student computers sit within
a part of the network that has a higher level of trust than the Internet,
it's important that we know what is out there. It's not meant to harrass
or even check for P2P or other programs; it's simply a vulnerability
assessment for us.
