Use this reference to give you a feedback of someone besides
myself.
I used Black Ice for about 6 months and I found that I got hacked. I had
a hidden log that was running and found that 18 hours of logs were
missing from the listing. Yea someone got into my system. Fortunately
there was nothing to steal. Whoever it was knew the weakness of black
ice. I do not know if they have ever fixed that problem. You can notice
how well they fixed the Firewall leakage test as listed on this web
site. My company wants me to move to black ice and I just don't have the
courage to do that again. If you want to try it out go ahead but use it
on a machine that you don't have any critical data on. I got attention
from the hackers because I reported every probe attack from the hackers
around the world. That part of the firewall works great. I just got one
real mad at me and he wanted to prove himself against me.
So far I have not been hacked using Zone alarm. Again not as
useful but what do you expect with a free version for personal use.
If you use a few tricks you can make Black ice secure. Run it as
Restriced user. DO not have admin rights logged in. Then you can log in
as an administrator to check the logs. Mininimize the profile. The
smaller the target the better off you will be. Good luck.

Subject: Feedback on BlackICE...

Hi all,

I am looking at BlackICE and wondering if anyone has good/bad
feedback on
the tool. Do you think it does a good job of the combined
Firewall/IDS/etc
security that it claims it does? I have it installed and running and it
has
caught a few port scans and a DoS on my system but that could be just
window
dressing.

Feedback is a good think... looking forward to yours.

Cheers...
