Has anyone out there used (or familiar with) the Kanamea Application server. These servers are suppose to provide a robust and secure transport mechanism across wide area networks(they use SSL as a transport mechanism). We have some engineers here that would like to put a Kanamea switch behind a firewall and allow remote access connections in. Kanamea, advertises the capability to have these Application servers reside behind a firewall (by allowing SSL through) without compromising existing security. As a firm believer of "VPN's Only" for remote access into a private network I have a very hard time allowing this to happen. As far as I am concerned SSL is great for secure online "transactions" but it is not a truly robust transport mechanism like IPSec and is not capable of handling large amounts of data like IPSec is capable of doing. Anyway, I don't see how one of this Application Servers can replace the security or robustness that a VPN would provide. Looking for any input on these switches...thanks in advance.
