Hi, Try this updated review on several network vulnerability tools. eEye Retina won a blue ribbon award when compared to other free or commercial products.
Personally I found Retina as being the most cost effective tool, yet powerful, in this field. If you're looking for a tool capable of doing a vulnerability assessment of both known and _unknown_ vulnerabilities let Retina work for you. You'll be impressed by it's ROI.
