Hello Eric, If you install Windows 2000 on a laptop with it's own partition then SuSE 7.2 afterwards you will have no problems at all. How do I know this???. It is exactly what I did and all is well. If you check the Linux sites or magazines you will find alot of votes for SuSE as the best for laptops. Check the SuSE site before hand to see if your laptop is supported. Mine is a Compaq E500. Not a single problem with the install or dual boot. Triple boot actually as I have Windows ME installed on it as well. Order of install is oldest OS first after that all is well. You go oldest first so the next OS install will recognise the first ones installed. In my case, Windows ME, then Windows 2000 and then SuSE 7.2. Do not put the linux boot loader on the disk but on a floppy and use that to boot. Oh and a slight variant from the oldest first rule, Windows refuses to have anything to do with Linux so that goes first.
Then install Nessus, Sara, etc etc etc on the machine. All run perfect. VMWARE is good but hogs the machine when you run something like Nessus on it. Not comfortable to work with in my humble opion. Good luck, Trevor -----Original Message----- From: Eric Zatko [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 19 March 2002 21:51 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Nessus follow up question. Hello Everyone, First I want to thank everyone that passed along advice regarding free system hardening software. Nessus seems to be the undisputed choice, but there were a few other options and I will look into all of them. Secondly, I will need to put Unix/Linux on a machine to use Nessus so I'm looking for advice. First, are there advantages to putting it on my laptop? If so, any recommendations for dual-boot software? Next, has anyone used VMWare, and if so would it work in this application, or is there a better solution? I know there are a lot of questions here... so if you rather, just give me your best solution. Again, in a bureaucracy, free is always better. Many thanks in advance.
