To the original poster, if you really know that little about what has happened to your server, and what to do with it... I suggest starting over from scratch and rebuilding it with a proper checklist, applying all patches, etc. -before- plugging the server into any sort of network. And as "dude" said, searching the archives of this list yields great results.
