Phoneboy's book is quite good, with some decent examples at the end of each chapter. It doesn't concentrate on any version of FW-1 specifically, although more on 4.x than anything else. And the NG stuff is actually fairly light, just a few mentions really. It also doesn't concentrate on any base OS specifically, mentioning Solaris, NT, and Nokia to about the same extent during the install chapters.
