Actually no, the GPL version is designed to only allow VPN from Smoothwall to Smoothwall, but if you browse the web and info lists enough (or just know enough about linux) you can get other things going.
SmoothTunnel, SmoothHost, and the other modules are for the Corp version, which has some benefits over the GPL version such as ext3 file system. The GPL version is about to be pulled and a "lite" version will be released with many of the Corp versions features. I think that will mark the change from IPChains to IPTables also...the way I read the docs, purchasable modules will work with Smoothwall Lite. FTY "lite" won't be completely open source, parts of it will be closed in a effort to keep people like IPCop (who used to work on smoothwall) from re-branding the source and redistributing. http://smoothwall.org/community/lite/dang.20020424.01.html More info at www.smoothwall.org and www.smoothwall.co.uk -tim -----Original Message----- From: Mark Merchant [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 1:49 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: low budget vpn >Or the original: www.smoothwall.org > >Check out http://www.ipcop.org these are both firewall products, although smoothwall does have a plugin called smooth tunnel for their corporate product. does it run in their gpl version? >>Other then pushing a GUI over SSH (which I'm considering), what would >>be a low or no cost VPN solution for me to log into my home network >>(Windows based so I can connect to MS Terminal Server). this actually works pretty well. though i can't recommend ms term.
