You cannot move certs from IIS4 to IIS5 they manage the keys differently. I
am pretty sure that you will need two certs, one for each box.....(im sure
ill be corrected if wrong)

Subject: IIS5 SSL Certs

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I have had
such good responses from you guys in the past, I thought that
someone would be able to help.

We have two IIS5 servers serving identical pages, from
identical URLs, in a failover capacity.

When applying an SSL cert to a W2000 IIS5 box, I was under
the impression that you would only have to secure the one
URL, once. Someone has mentioned to me that I would need two
certs, one for each box, I dont think so, although it has
been some time since I done this, and the last time was with
IIS4. Surely once the Cert has been issued by the CA, and I
aply it to the box it was generated on, I can then export
this, and apply it to the other box(es), by using the key
manager?

I think that the problems only occur if you use the machine
name as the common name, and of course, I have not.

Can anyone clarify his for me please?

Thanks in advance

JM
