Just the fact that you are considering increased security by implementing SSH/SCP should indicate its need. When will you otherwise be inclined to add security, after something has been compromised? Too late. By using ssh-agent, a sample FTP here script can be converted to one line using SCP, for example. I cannot see any reason not to convert to SSH/SCP.
