Trust me, they're using either a or b for the WAPs. Taking a look at Alvarion, most of their products appear to be 802.11b, unless they're using the BreezeNET DS.5800 which is strictly a backhaul (meaning no client endpoint connectivity).
There are boatloads of tools for wireless sniffing and detection. http://airsnort.shmoo.com/ http://wepcrack.sourceforge.net/ http://www.netstumbler.com/ http://www.kismetwireless.net/ ===================== Leif Gregory [EMAIL PROTECTED] 06/04/2003 05:25 PM To [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc Subject Commercial Wireless access points A few local cities in our town use commercial wireless access points. They have towers setup. They use I think wep encryption if that. Has anybody been able to sniff out these commercial access points? Or do you know of any tools? http://www.alvarion.com is one of the product being used. They use 802.11 not a or b just 802.11. We are a security consulting company. A local city is running a beta program using this wireless technology. That have asked us to do security analysis on their wireless network.
