So the one I was familiar with on MIT-MULTICS (10.0.0.6, back when 10/8 was public address space and DNS was being rolled out) was that dropping DTR (the RS232 Data Terminal Ready signal) disconnected anything holding the terminal open, leaving it out of reach of anything but the Answering Service (the thing that logged you in). I don't recall whether this killed off your session or whether you could reattach to it after reauthenticating and pick up where you left off. I guess the moral equivalent today would be unplugging your keyboard or mouse :-) - Bill
