I supposed that the term 'backwards compatible' implies to some
that it "may go away".

And "reduced functionality" likely refers only to the SMF /etc/rc?.d
functionality: no way to stop, restart, enable or disable legacy services.
So not reduced over S9 but relative to things 'new'.

No; it needs to stick around at least as long as support for Solaris 9 and 
longer; we pride ourselves in compatibility and existing software should
continue to work.
