        hi Chris, there were some changes in snv_99 wrt SunSSH (PKCS#11 
support) but this doesn't seem to be the problem to me.

        you mean, when you log into using a different window manager, it 
works? I don't use GNOME so enlighten me please - does GNOME automatically 
take all your SSH keys and put them into the agent?

        sshd debug would be useful, the client one doesn't say much.
