Florin

I'm relatively new to MNF.

My only concern is the process for updating  (I'm using a downloaded version).

When I did't provide an ftp  login/passwd the web update interface claimed there were no updates, which was not the case.

Even after applying all the patches using urpmi, the web update interface still seems broken.  The doc  / code discusses 3 types of mirror (https://10.0.0.200:8443/en/secure/index.php?where=17030&tag=3&loadfile=modules/mu4naat/index.php:

The help for that page says:
"You have to select between three different types of mirrors

  • Registered Mirror: this option will give you access to the updates site dedicated to MandrakeSecurity. It contains updates for the regular base Linux distribution upon which resides MandrakeSecurity, but also MandrakeSecurity specific packages, as well as optional modules.
  • Official Mirror: on the following page, you are given a list of all Mandrake Linux official mirror sites. It is strongly recommended that you select one of these as your mirror.
  • Personal Mirror: on the following page, you will be able to manually enter the URL of the site hosting the updates for your system."
None of that functionality seems to work: the menus only want to talk to the Registered Update Mirror.

I'm a home user, and paying for support is out of the question.  I eventually found the reference about how to use urpmi to update
MNF8.2, and I now have a fully patched box.  I maintain that Mandrake has gained nothing my making that process difficult
for me  (and others I suspect). Why not enable web updates for all / or at least provide helpful error messages / documentation
on the update process?  It isn't in anyones' interest to have unpatched MNF boxes out there.

Regards

Nigel

The next two weeks will represent an intense MNF update process. New
features will be added.

Also, if you have found some critical problems, let me know ... I'll
eat sleep on MNF for the next couple of weeks :o)

I will also need some testers for the new MNF features:

- Pptp VPN
- bridging
- traffic shaping
- openvpn
- DSL connections
- bonding

anyone ?
