Microsoft's legal department is seeking an Internet Investigator to 
conduct online investigations and to support criminal and civil 
enforcement actions relating to spam, digital theft, online fraud and 
piracy. This position will report to the senior corporate attorney 
overseeing these programs. 

Primary responsibilities:  
Conduct Internet investigations for enforcement relating to spam, online 
piracy, identity theft, fraud and other Internet-related crimes  
Collaborate with Microsoft technical teams and outside vendors to develop 
database tools and processes that analyze lead information and identify 
quality targets for anti-spam and other enforcement actions  
Help develop and support education, targeting and enforcement programs to 
address piracy of Microsoft software on peer-to-peer networks  
Work closely with the Xbox business group and industry organizations to 
develop and support an Xbox anti-piracy enforcement program in the US 
Provide oral and written testimony in support of enforcement relating to 
investigations and technical expertise  
Coordinate across internal and external groups to support the company's 
Digital Integrity campaigns to protect digital commerce and intellectual 
property on the internet  

Qualifications include: 
A minimum of three years experience with Internet investigations relating 
to intellectual property, digital commerce or other online crimes; 
Proficiency with Internet investigative tools including Whois, 
Traceroute, and NS Lookup
Experience deciphering e-mail headers; thorough knowledge of network 
communications systems and commonly used e-mail and Internet protocols 
including TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, DNS, IRC, FTP, P2P and NNTP
Working knowledge data management systems as well as authentication, 
encryption and digital signature protocols
