Description/Qualifications: POSITION PURPOSE Coordinates the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of Routing and Switching platforms and protocols in a predominantly Cisco powered network. Manages projects and leads teams. Responds to helpdesk (HEAT) issues and provides second tier escalation support to the LAN Services group. Coordinates the creation of and adherence to network standards documentation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated proficiency installing and configuring Cisco hubs, routers and switches. Certified to at least the Cisco CCNA level. Advanced knowledge of local and wide area networks, protocols and concepts including DLSW, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and IP Tunneling. Advanced knowledge of VLANS including layer-3 switching, inter-VLAN routing and Trunking. Demonstrated project management and team leading ability. Experience creating technical documentation. Advanced knowledge of capacity planning including network base lining and bandwidth need projection. Thorough understanding of network efficiency maximization utilizing appropriate routing protocols and access lists. Thorough understanding of network addressing, including IP and IPX addressing, IP subnet calculation and Frame-Relay DLCI assignment. Understanding of structured network cabling plant management, including network cable identification, labeling and documentation. Advanced knowledge of network services including DNS and DHCP, including experience implementing these services on various operating systems. Thorough understanding of TCP/IP port numbers and the services provided on these. Advanced understanding of network management and troubleshooting protocols and tools including sniffer products, Cisco diagnostic commands, and SNMP management platforms. Achievement of industry recognition via certifications from manufactures including Novell, Microsoft, Cisco, Network +. Equivalent, demonstrable experience may be acceptable. Advanced knowledge of Unix and the X-windows system with preference given to those with experience with the Sun Solaris platform. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience with at least 6 years of overall network computing experience. Analytical skills for resolution of complex routing and switching issues. Demonstrated ability to manage projects and teams while juggling several competing projects at one time. Written and verbal communication skills, to interact effectively with end users, TIS staff and vendors. Presentation and debate skills to assist in presenting information to management resulting in acquisition and implementation of Routing, Switching, and Security solutions. Ability to interact with many people of differing professional levels, and to succeed in an environment of competing priorities. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Advanced knowledge of Firewall systems, especially CheckPoint NG and Cisco Pix firewalls as well as Intrusion Detection Systems and Incident Response policies and procedures.
