Yes! Definitely there should be some general remote monitoring mechanism for
Sedna.

Probably, the best option is to write plugin for Nagios for this task. It's
very powerful and extensible open-source platform (standard de-facto now?).

If you need some thing really simple and fast, you can write a bash script
and run it via ssh.

Anyway, if you feel that you need some special support from Sedna (API or
something) let us know. But I would start from looking at monitoring plugins
for MySQL or something like that to understand what can they do and how they
actually do that.
