Here is some material that I gleaned from the technical discussion lists:

Michael Meyers' A+ All-In-One A+ Certification is an excellent book. It is 
copyrighted for 2,000 as well. So most of the info. is very current to go by.
It has excellent pictures, graphs and study questions at the end of each
chapter. It comes with a good Test CD too. Retails for $60.
I got it at CompUSA just over $40.
But if thick books and price are not for you, you might try A+ For Dummies.
I was surprised how well it was written and the price, about$30.
