What you apparently require, due to poor connections from your ISP, is
a mail client that will delete each message immediately following
retrieval. Most email clients download all messages on the server and
then delete all the messages. In this latter case, if the connection
is lost midway of the downloading of messages, then none of the
messages would be deleted and upon the next attempt to download those
messages, you would have to once again download all messages beginning
at the beginning.

We had another member mention The Bat e-mail client. I don't know how
The Bat handles downloading of e-mail. That might be a good
alternative for you. I can attest, however, that Eudora will delete
each separate message upon retrieving, which in effect gives you a
resume feature if your connection is is lost midway during a download.

I would suggest you obtain the free Eudora Light and just keep it on
your drive to use during those times your connection to your ISP seem
to be at it's worst. You can still use your preferred e-mail client
most of the time.

ftp.qualcomm.com/eudora/eudoralight/windows/english/306/eul306.exe

Another alternative to your dilemma, and probably a better one now that
I think of it after typing all that <g> is to use a selective download
utility. For example, suppose you lose your connection downloading 100
messages and you lost the connection after downloading the first 60
messages. If you had a utility to just go back and delete those 60
messages already downloaded, that could save you from having to
redownload them again when you fire up your e-mail client again.

For that go to PC Utilities:

Click the link for Internet Utilities (right side)

Scroll down to PC Magazine's Mail Call and click that link.

http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000XTU,.html

In fact, you can use Mail Call to first preview your mail on the server
and you delete those messages on the server that you are sure you do
not wish to download, thus reducing the size of your download and
making the odds better that you will get all mail during a download
before getting disconnected.

I might mention that Pegasus has an inbuilt selective download. You
can visit the Pegasus site if you are interested in switching clients:
