For KBryan (aka Peace1969),
I can hear and feel the frustration (quite justified). I think it is
corporate unconsciousness and greed... and the placing of profits way ahead
of consumer's needs. And, if this were a "discussion list," I'm sure that
we would have dozens sharing their similar experiences here with you.
(You're not alone!!)
As far as URL's to browse? An option, other than M$? (Gasp, a computer
without Windows?!!) Not that it's the final answer, but my (partial)
solution is to embrace Linux. I've started moving over to Linux one step at
a time. I'd really like to Opt-Out of *all* the corporate madness (if that
were possible)... I've grown fed up with M$ and the others who cheat and
lie as well. Many, many of us feel the same frustration you must be
feeling... and that is one reason that Linux is growing so rapidly in
popularity. (It's not for everyone... but, keep an eye on Linux and maybe
someday it will appeal to you as well.)
Try:
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/
Or:
http://www.redhat.com/
Or: enter "linux" (without the quotes) in just about any search engine.
