I am going to first refer you to About.com where you can find a series
of articles giving advice on raising dogs:
http://dogs.about.com/pets/dogs/msub10.htm
I've raised dogs just about all my life. I have to say that I've read
many of the so called "experts" advice and I disagree with a great deal
of them. There are some aspects that they are completely wrong. I
suppose some day I should write my own book.
One thing great about a dog is that they are quick to forgive you for
your mistakes. So if you do something wrong with a dog, in training or
other matters, you can correct it without much harm to the dog.
Puppies learn by rote and not reason. So never expect a puppy to
rationale the difference from right and wrong. That has to be
reinforced with repetition.

Raising a puppy is just simply a matter of observation, firm yet gentle
resolve and determination on your part, patience, and love. There is
no other pet in the world that will return love to you and your family
and bond with them, than a dog. :-)
