[SaF] Them Crazy Shoes

Went to the post office today and was treated to a tap dancin routine by
a four year old who had a pair of shoes with what looked like flashing
diodes as she traced across the post office lobby floor. What are they?
Are there batteries that activate microswitches? Is there some sort of
pizeoelectric effect? I can't even conceive how to frame this as a
search. Any help or direction to a site will be appreciate. This
inquiring mind wants to know?
