tim-
trial versions of corel draw, word perfect office 2000, and ventura
(windows/windowsNT ONLY) are available at:
<http://www.corel.com/freebies/trialoffers.htm>
some free programs, including corel draw for macintosh ("limited edition"),
word perfect for linux, and a presentation package (ms powerpoint clone) for
windows are available at:
<http://www.corel.com/freebies/cwpfreebies.htm>
you may also want to poke around in the <pub> directory of their ftp site:
<ftp.corel.com> (login:anonymous; password:<youremailaddress>). i tried to
download the mac corel draw freebie (direct from the website) and it
wouldn't work, so i started snooping on the ftp site, but couldn't find my
file. the downloading faq says that if your download doesn't work to try
again later, so i guess i'll do that.
and one final option would be to look around on the big shareware sites,
like zdnet <http://www.zdnet.com/downloads>, tucows <http://www.tucows.com>,
and shareware.com (from c|net) <http://www.shareware.com>.
i didn't have a lot of luck with finding corel demos (plenty of adobe &
macromedia though), but i WAS able to get a working download of that mac
file i'd been unable to get direct from corel. so you may want to see what
you can find.
also, i suppose that i don't have to tell you about all of the illegal
"warez" sites and ftp servers out there. i'm not saying that i condone
software piracy, but if there's no other way to find a demo, you may want to
search around and see what you can find. (i will not, however, provide you
with any links to these sites (they ARE illegal, after all) and i wouldn't
really encourage anyone to get involved in that.)
good luck!
