Hello Seekers and Finders. :-)

It was mentioned by one poster that the discussion regarding Win Modems
would be better served on another list. To some degree, I agree with
this. It all depends on how the answer people fashion their answers.
For example, in today's postings Garrett Wilner referenced a part of
the Red Hat FAQ to support his position. I think that is good and
lends itself to the type of support our list is known for -- namely
finding information in the Internet. Our list is not designed for just
trading personal knowledge or discussing matters in detail.

As it happens, the original seeker posted his same question to other
mailing lists. In looking at this, it seems to me that one particular
mailing list stood out in providing the seeker with the best input to
his problem. I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you all about
this mailing list, which is owned by a friend and member of our mailing
list -- namely, Tim Schoon's "Internet" mailing list.

The "Internet" mailing list was formally the "WorldSpy" mailing list,
which covered topics about the free ISP, Worldspy. When Worldspy bit
the dust, Tim being undismayed, changed the scope of the list to a
general discussion of the Internet.

The Internet discussion mailing list covers a wide range of topics
related to the Internet.  You can render opinions about technical news;
Internet services; web sites; Internet applications; and more. You can
ask questions about your Internet applications or seek recommendations
from others on the list.

Of all the lists that the query about WinModems was posted to, I think
the best responses have come on the Internet list. The Internet is
archived at The Mail Archive, so you might check it out there:
