If the 15-year-old depressed student is interested in word games, the payoff
would be multiplied. My love of words and reading helped me to slog through
a severe depression a few years ago. There are many sites on the Internet
with fun games, some of them interactive. I did a search for "anagrams" and
got lots of links. He might also get involved with some chat rooms where
people play word games, such as the ones on Yahoo. These chat groups can
provide support that's even more valuable than support group chat.
He can also sign up for my FREE monthly e-mail word games newsletter,
Anacade Wordplay. He can subscribe at my web site www.anacade.com (Anacade
International, publisher of educational books and games.) At my site, he'll
find a new set of word games every month, with answers to the previous
month's games. There's also an archive of previous months' games. These
games provide good mental exercise for all ages, and they also teach
problem-solving skills such as seeing multiple options in the making and
manipulating of words. Give him my heartfelt best wishes, and a big
cyberhug from me --
