I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where we said "baby tender" instead of
"baby sitter."  I've lived in California for over 30 years, though, so I
guess I talk like a Californian.  HHG.


1) Center of a peach:    peach pit or stone
2) to put a single room of the house in order:    straighten up, clean up
3) web hanging from the ceiling of a room: cobweb
4) large open metal container for scrub water:
                                                pail or scrub bucket
5) grass strip in the center of a divided road: divider, meridian, or
parking strip (don't ask me why, but that's what we called it in Salt Lake
City where I grew up).
6) policeman: officer or cop
7) place where packaged groceries can be purchased: grocery store
8) insect that glows at night:  firefly or firebug
9) a carbonated drink: soda pop
10) food eaten between regular meals: snack
11) someone who is from the country: farmer,
12) someone who won't change his mind is said to be: stubborn, bull-headed,
fixated
13) fast-moving amusement park ride (on tracks): roller coaster
14) paper container for groceries: grocery bag  or paper sack
