I found a "missing" link to a page named "The French Disease''. Here's the description:
""The French Disease'' is what the Italians of the 16th century called syphilis; the
French,
naturally, called it the Italian Disease, or the Disease of Naples."
Unfortunately, it is a link to a page that cannot be found on their server. These are
the
instructions given on the page-
"You have come across a missing document. If you got to this document from our search
page, we
regret that there are still some files in the search database that should have been
moved
elsewhere. If you came across this file due to a missing link, please send us email"
You can email them from the link on the page.
Here's the URL-
http://www.santafe.edu/~shalizi/reviews/french-disease.html
This is the closest match I could find based on your description.
