Hi Ken, We went through a slightly less ambitious exercise about a year ago to find publications on the successful use of aeromagnetics in mineral exploration discoveries. The best source of information that we found was the ASEG's technical journal "Exploration Geophysics". The best examples were usually associated with the Conference Publications. Since you are already an ASEG member, you have probably done this exercise so this is an opportunity for me to put in a plug for the ASEG http://www.aseg.org.au <http://www.aseg.org.au> . Publications go back to 1970, but the most useful ones for this exercise are those published in the last 10 years. Special ASEG publications on the Elura and Woodlawn deposits review many geophysical methods. Best wishes in the hunt for more information. I have come across some partial lists but nothing which I felt was very complete, either in the details provided or the number of deposits covered. By 'discoveries' I am as well not meaning the sole technique used to make a find but that aeromagnetics provided a key piece of the geoscience data used to find a deposit. New deposits or extensions to known deposits would be fine, but if this is the case, this should be flagged. Short of finding a list, I would be prepared to construct a list if people were willing to submit cases which they felt should be included. I have recently completed a list for airborne EM discoveries, which I plan to publish next year. For that list, I collected the following: 1) Name of deposit 2) Year of discovery (date of drilling not survey date) 3) Owner of property at time of discovery 4) System used (not as critical for mag as EM but still of value) 5) Tonnage & grade (Mbbls) 6) Whether or not deposit was mined/exploited 7) Are profiles available? 8) References My geographic scope is global but for the EM case, I have found the CIS and China to be very tough to get reliable stats for. An important ancillary piece of information is the amount of actual surveying that has been performed. This is in a way a separate request but I would like to know if there are some good references where such is covered. Again, from my airborne EM, this is a very hard thing to get a bead on-hope springs eternal. Aeromag like EM has been used for about 50 years and as we pass into the next century, I think it important to quantify what airborne geophysics has done. Any help you can provide would be great. My intention is to make this list available to the public as soon as it looks to be in reasonable shape. What I have done with the EM list is provide it to those who contributed, with the request to simply provide a suitable reference.
