Dear Colleague:

The SEG Mining & Geothermal Committee & the Canadian Exploration Geophysical
Society (KEGS) wish to cordially invite you to attend the geophysical event
of 2000, the Society of Exploration Geophysicist's 70th Annual General
Meeting to be held in Calgary Alberta, August 6-11, 2000. There are two
important messages we want to pass on to you now:

1-Plan to Attend! The best place to stay tuned is on the SEG's web site:
http://www.seg.org. The Mining Committee's list server will also broadcast
bulletins as Calgary draws closer-information on how to subscribe is
attached below.

2-Submit a paper! A vital part of the success of the SEG meeting, the major
continuous learning forum for many of us, are the papers the mining
community submits for inclusion in the meeting. Due to the meeting being
somewhat earlier than normal, the timing for submission of papers is already
upon us. You can pick up all you need off  the SEG's web site;
http://meeting.seg.org. What is critical is that abstracts MUST be submitted
by February 15 to be considered for inclusion in the Calgary program. Don't
delay!!

The Committee & KEGS have been jointly working to develop an excellent
program for Calgary, the highlights of which are listed below:

A) Short Courses (to be held prior to main meeting)
-Practical Inversion Applied to Mining Geophysical Problems-Prof Doug
Oldenburg-EOS/UBC
-The Application of Airborne EM to Minerals Exploration-Dr Richard
Smith-Geoterrex-Dighem

B) Main Meeting
-Three full Mining sessions devoted to i) Case Histories, ii) New
Technologies, and iii) Janis forum; looking back & forward at our profession
-Data Warehouse: groups from around the world will be invited to display
their data in interactive poster format; Steve Reford-PG&W, Bob Smith-RT
-Mining Luncheon-Speaker Mr. Tom Eadie; Executive General Manager
Exploration, Pasminco Pty.
-Mining Committee/KEGS Beer night-(lead by Al King who promises to take the
most intrepid into Calgary's seediest dives)

C) Post-Meeting Workshops
i) Latest Developments in Airborne EM; views from the contractors and the
users; P.A. Diorio-BHP/B. Polzer-INCO
ii) Integrated Interpretation; including
-Petrophysical Models-The Exploration Rosetta Stone & Why We are Lost
Without Them: Dick Irvine-Condor
-Common Earth Models; A Look at the Tools and Their Use. John McGaughey-Mira
-Geoscience Teams in the Next Decade; Who is on Your Bench?: TBA

D) Post-Meeting Tour of the Tyrell Natural History Museum- a world class
museum 2 hours from Calgary: http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/

The above mining focused program will as well be complemented by what we
know will as well be excellent programs put on by our colleagues from the
Gravity/Magnetics and Near Surface communities. This in turn will be part of
what we are all sure will be outstanding show put on by the oil & gas
community and our Calgary hosts.

Plan to attend...
