EEGS Presents SAGEEP 2000

The 13th Annual Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Environmental
and Engineering Problems, (SAGEEP)

Are you aware of the latest geophysical techniques used for detailed
subsurface site characterization, aquifer mapping, subsurface water and
DNAPL/LNAPL flow studies?

Are you interested in learning about innovations in borehole imagery and
acoustics as well as GPR and seismic surface wave surveys?

Did you know that Ground Penetrating Radar is a cost-effective method for
locating buried non-metallic objects? (Such as victims of crimes)

Would you like to attend courses, workshops or seminars to learn how
geophysical/geological data is utilized within the GIS based decision
process?

If these topics, and the many others outlined below, are of
importance to you then plan to be at
The Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society's

                                                      SAGEEP 2000

We invite you to take part in SAGEEP 2000 - the world's premier conference
and tradeshow on non-invasive geophysical techniques and their application
to engineering and environmental problems. Geophysical methods are used
extensively within virtually all Federal Government Agencies, almost all
engineering and environmental firms, and universities. Nearly every project
concerned with the environment, engineering infrastructure, and hydrology,
from unexploded ordnance to the safety of our drinking water, involves the
latest geophysical techniques.

Highlights of SAGEEP 2000

Invited Keynote Speaker: The Honorable Dan Goldin, NASA Administrator.
Goldin's talk entitled "Exploration of the Subsurface of Mars" is scheduled
for Monday, February 21, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. In naming him one of the most
influential men in government, the National Journal observed that "most
space watchers say that Goldin is a brilliant visionary who brought NASA
back from the brink of a black hole."

Technical Sessions - See what's new and learn how to keep a competitive edge
by attending some of the over 150 oral and poster sessions dealing with the
latest geophysical techniques and technologies. Topics include:

*       Airborne geophysical surveys
*       Archaeology
*       Borehole techniques
*       Forensic geophysics
*       Geomechanics
* Geophysics as an element in disaster response (Honduras, Colombia,
etc.)
*       Landfill characterization
*       Mining
*       Processing, interpretation, and modelling
*       Radioactive waste disposal.
* Seismic surface waves and ultra-shallow seismics
*       Shallow-water, transition zone sea-floor characterization
* Toxic waste management and mitigation
* UXO and land mine detection

EEGS Short Courses include - Geophysics in Law Enforcement, Applications of
Geophysics in Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering, Signals and
Inversion in Geotechnical Site Characterization, and, Non-destructive
Methods for Civil Infrastructure.

Ice Breaker Reception - Sunday, February 20, 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Held in the
exhibition area, the ice breaker is always well attended. Complimentary
hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar provide an informal and excellent opportunity
to meet people and share ideas.

Sailing on the Chesapeake! Sunday, February 20. Seaworthy members or
guests interested in sharing the cost of a bareboat charter should contact
Terrie Rowley at [EMAIL PROTECTED] A sailing lesson can be provided.

Student Reception (no charge for students) - Monday, February 21, 6:00 -
9:00 PM. Starting with tips for students on selecting an advisor, finding a
job, writing resumes, and interviewing techniques, this meeting will be
followed by a buffet supper, free to students. For information on Free
SAGEEP Student Registration contact Lynn Cramer at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

EEGS Business Meeting and Luncheon - Tuesday, February 22, Noon to 1:30 PM.
Join the EEGS Officers and Board for a casual lunch and an update on EEGS
activities and directions, followed by a dynamic presentation by the
Department of Defense.

SAGEEP Exhibitor Mixer - Tuesday, February 22, 6:00 - 8:30 PM. Everyone is
invited to join the SAGEEP Exhibitors at the Historic National Press Club
for a relaxed evening with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

Mount Vernon Archaeological Field Trip - Thursday, February 24, 9:00 AM to
4:00 PM. Held at George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, this trip will
feature a 20 foot section of the distillery area which has recently been
uncovered. GPR equipment will be demonstrated at this archaeological
geophysical opportunity.

Session Breaks - A sponsored beverage station will be set up each day in the
exhibit area. At intervals during the technical sessions, attendees gather
for coffee, tea, snacks and another opportunity to network.

Spouse Program - For information on spouse trips, or just to find time to
get together during the conference, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Plan to attend. This conference provides an exciting and informative
meeting place for worldwide explorationists. See cutting-edge technologies,
meet leading manufacturers and service providers and get the inside track on
the latest technologies.

Come exhibit. Exhibitors return year after year because SAGEEP attracts
geophysicists, geologists, engineers, environmental and forensic scientists,
military and government environmental specialists, consultants and other
geophysics users from around the world.
