Dear SEGMin Subscribers: As the incoming SEG Mining & Geothermal (M&GCom) Chair, I wish to thank all of you who had the opportunity to participate in the very successful Calgary meeting. We had an excellent turn out, all factors considered, and especially pleasing was the strong overseas representation. As a number of you commented to me during the meeting, efforts are being made to capture materials from our two special sessions (Janus and AEM) and the Ore Deposits Seminar on the Friday. Audio tapes were made of these three sessions and together with as much of the presented material as we can arm twist out of the presenters, we are looking at making these materials available later in the year on our soon to be inaugurated Mining and Geothermal web site. This activity is being championed by Al King, our recent past-chair and he tells me that we should be on-line in November. What all we can/should do with a web site has been discussed amongst the M&GCom members for some time but I know further discussions will ensue as the web site gets closer to being a reality. Input from subscribers to the list server will of course be of value in establish priorities and direction. A few other Committee/mining highlights out of Calgary were, Dick West (BHP Minerals-Vancouver) is now the M&GCom Co-chair and Peter Annan (SEG Honorary Award winner this year) is the in-coming SEG Second-VP. Congrats to both Dick and Peter! You can reach them at: Dick: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peter: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SEG Honors and Awards Nominations This is the time of year that marks when we are asked to identify those members of the SEG whom their peers feel should be cited for extraordinary service to the SEG and or the profession of exploration geophysics. The SEG has a number of categories which awards can be made and these can be found (along with the recipients) at the SEG site: http://seg.org/publications/yearbook/distinguished.html The M&GCom has set up a committee to co-ordinate this process. This committee is currently made up of: M&GCom Chair: (K Witherly: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) KEGS president: (Peter Walker: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) Hohman Award Liaison: (Joe Inman: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) In addition, we have invited Harry Seigel, founder of Scintrex and current emeritus professor of physics at the University of Toronto and the 1995 Maurice Ewing medal, the SEG's highest personal honor, to chair this committee. If you have any candidates that you believe warrant consideration for a SEG nomination, could you please contact either Peter Walker or myself at our personal email addresses. Please DO NOT reply to this email, as we have seen before, everyone on the list server will be copied with this communication. Regards Ken Witherly Condor Consulting, Inc.
