Dear Colleagues: Please note the following message from Phil Wannamaker in regards to nominations for the Hohmann Award. --------------------------------- Call for Nominations for the GWH Award for Excellence in Applied Electrical Geophysics: The G W Hohmann Trust is soliciting nominations for its 2001 award, which will be given to an outstanding educator in electrical and electromagnetic geophysics. The recipient should be a senior educator who has produced graduates who have also contributed to the field. Nominations are referred to the Trustees for final selection. The GWH Award, commemorated by an engraved silver bowl and a cash prize, is meant as an acknowledgement from the EM community for excellence in the profession. The community has supplied the Trust with many excellent nominations since the initial award in 1997, and we look forward to your participation in this years process. Please send nominations, including a short citation, to Louise Pellerin, [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------ History of the Award: 1997 Misac Nabighian, for a lifetime of outstanding achievement. The award was announced at the meeting of the SEG Mining and Geothermal Committee during Pathways98 and was presented to Misac at a dinner in Denver. 1998 David L. Alumbaugh, for outstanding achievements by a junior scientist (within 5 years of final degree). David was presented the award at the Mining & Geothermal luncheon during the SEG annual meeting in New Orleans. The citation was written by Davids undergraduate and graduate advisor and by a colleague from Sandia National Laboratory. 1999 Douglas W. Oldenburg and Yaoguo Li, for an outstanding paper in electrical geophysics published within the last 7 years. Doug was presented the award at the 3DEM-2 banquet in Salt Lake City (Yaoguo received his bowl by mail). Dr. Ron M. Clowes, from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), wrote the citation. 2000 Stanley H. Ward received the SEG's prestigious Maurice Ewing Award. Not wanting to dilute this high honor to a longtime leader of the EM community, the Trust chose not to solicit nominations in 2000. Instead, we added our voices to the SEG's in applauding Stan and thanking him for all his contributions to the field of applied electrical geophysics. _______________________________________________________ List archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
