I think it would be a great idea to have an informal "Remembrance for Stan Ward" at the SEG in SLC this October. My image of the gathering is a room filled with colleagues drinking and telling stories about Stan.
Ken Witherly sparked another idea of collecting photos of Stan, especially from his early, "pioneering" days in geophysics and displaying them in some format. I would be happy to collect the images and generate something from it (you can send me the photos for scanning or email me any scanned photos/digital images that you have of Stan). If you send any photos pls include a date, location, names of people in photo and any other pertinent details. If you have a story about Stan, a farewell or a comment on his life and impact, those can be sent to me as well and I will bind them up for distribution. The Mining And Geothermal Luncheon is Wednesday Oct 9th and the M&G Committee meeting is that afternoon, so one suggestion is to have the gathering on that Wednesday night after the M&G meeting. Any other suggestions or comments regarding this concept are welcome. Stan was a pioneer in Mining and Geothermal exploration and his influence has been felt far and wide so let us honor the man in a way that he would appreciate and enjoy!
