Subject: [SEGMIN]: SEG Workshop-Oct 10th Thursday PM

Dear Colleagues:

Please find attached the outline for what promises to be a very
interesting/thought provoking workshop on Thursday afternoon of SEG week. A
broad segment of our community will try and capture what has happened to our
industry and what they see as where our future (success) lies.

Redefining how Geophysics adds value in the minerals business; the
Entrepreneurial Imperative
Chairmen: Leigh Freeman and Terry McConnell
 Thursday Afternoon, October 10, 2002
 1:00 - 4:30

Abstract:
The minerals geophysicist for the first 50 years as a geoscience
professional devoted likely 95%+ of their time to the search for new mineral
resources, most often in the employ of major mining companies or service
groups. With the closing off of the last decade however, there has been a
major change in responsibilities and opportunities linked with fundamental
changes with the mining industry as a whole. Now, whether inside or outside
a major organizations, the geophysicist is expected to be much more
entrepreneurial, combining both technical and commercial skills to
accomplish their tasks, keeping much more of the 'big picture' of both their
organization and industry in mind that was ever needed before. The workshop
will examine first hand some of the trends/experiences this paradigm shift
has brought to our profession.
