The following session might be of interest to some of you who would like to
attend the IUGG meeting in Montreal this coming July

A20 - GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY TECHNOLOGY FOR MINING EXPLORATION (IAGA)  Conveners:
Richard Smith (Canada, IAGA), Ian Ferguson (Canada, IAGA)

DescriptionWe invite presentations covering all aspects of geophysical
technology applied in mineral exploration and mining.  The technology can range
across differing geophysical equipment, processing methods, modelling and
inversion techniques, interpretation approaches, and types of mineralization.
Presentations can be focused on one technique or discuss methods for
integrating multiple data sets, using for example machine learning algorithms.
Submissions can relate to work done at a multitude of scales.  At the
continental scale, the geophysical techniques could be defining crustal and
sub-continental lithospheric mantle structures that might focus mineralizing
fluids. At the mining camp scale the techniques might be delineating large
alteration zones that are associated with many types of deposits; at the scale
of hundreds of metres the techniques might be exploring for a new deposit.  At
the scale of tens of metres, the technique might be looking for new lenses of
mineralization and, at the scale of a few centimetres, the techniques could be
for examining the physical properties that help in understanding geological
variation. We welcome examples that are successful or unsuccessful.

RegardsRichard Smith
