Thanks for the update Barry.
The list of movies in the link I provided was dated May 2015. Unfortunately after 20 minutes it stopped and requested credit card details for payment to continue watching. Not wanting to provide my CC details to some nefarious Russian website I declined, but I found that I could watch the next 20 minutes by re-starting the original link you provided and fast-forwarding 20 minutes at a time using the progress slider bar at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately (as you mentioned) the subtitles appear to have been done by an AI verbal translator. much of the subtitling is almost incoherent and I found it difficult to keep track of the plot. Rather dark (typical Russian?) plot.. lots of introverted ramblings about the meaning of life etc. But the scenery is fantastic! Set in the late 50s - early 60s, it presumably provides a good idea of what gold exploration in the Soviet Union was like around that time.. extremely rough field conditions! Any modern exploration group would be horrified by the complete lack of any safety standards and reckless activities. e.g. one guy on his own wading/swimming across fast flowing, near-freezing river with a pack on his back. Howard said it was 4 hours but the timer says 2:32 which is much more reasonable. So it is either the expurgated version or Howard was on a long flight and didn't take time zones into account;-) They have embedded it into the page so that you can't download it and watch it on your next long flight but maybe I just need to get better at hacking. Attached is a trailer for this below. The full length version has subtitles and I am trying to track it down. Howard Golden, who worked and lived in Russia said there is a national holiday honoring geologists.I assume geophysicists get a whole week for their holiday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL9iOP0m4Cc If nothing else, the scenery is awesome.
